Motherhood Photo Shoot at home in North Brisbane, Queensland

I have a hard time choosing a single favourite from a session but one from the last part usually makes the top three. Why? Everyone has relaxed into the moment, you’ve maybe forgotten I’ve got a camera, there’s usually a laugh and the light is just that much softer.

On the Sunday I was asked to photograph Nora’s extended family - we captured everyone together and each family unit. But it was walking up the drive at the end chatting with Nora and her two girls that I knew I wanted a few extra shots of them together. I’ve got a soft spot for teenage photos. We so often document every moment in the baby and toddler years but this cusp of adulthood can be harder to get for so many reasons (hello busy schedules and social lives!). There’s no age limit for documenting family memories and there are so many firsts (and lasts) for this age too.

We mothers have a wonderfully precious and truly powerful role to play in the future self-image of our daughters. The model of our own empowerment gives our daughters permission to be powerful.

It’s always my hope that I deliver a gallery of images to love, but these teenage memories I hope will be cherished a tiny bit more, because it’s not as easy to all get together as our babies grow. Need to update your family photos, let’s chat!
